TROOP 26 CAMPING TRIPS
Troop 26 Camping

Troop 26 schedules a monthly camping trip to a variety of interesting places places throughout Connecticut and New England.  All scouts are encouraged to attend and parent volunteers are also welcome. We typically leave after school on Friday night or early Saturday morning.  We return by mid afternoon on Sunday.

On a backpack campout each scout is responsible for carrying his personal supplies including food.  We have covered the required equipment at several troop meetings.  Review the information in your scout book.  A suggested checklist is provided below. 

TRY NOT TO OVERLOAD YOUR PACK!

 

PACKING LIST FOR AN OVERNIGHT BACKPACK

__ Compass

­__ Pocket knife*

__ Headlamp or Flashlight with new batteries & extra batteries

__ Space Blanket

__ Personal first aid kit, chapstick, sunscreen and insect repellent(TICKS)

__ Wipes and Hand sanitizer

__ Toilet paper

__ Small Trowel

__ Waterproof matches

__ Rope (lightweight)

__ Large trash bag ( to cover pack if rain)

__ Large ziplock bags ( to keep clothes & food dry in pack)

__ Mess kit ( add a disposable paper bowl)

__ Sleeping bag ( and trash bag to cover it)

­__ Foam pad

__ Water ( Two 1 quart containers)

__ Fishing gear  (Optional)

 

 

FOOD: (SCOUT MUST BRING THEIR OWN SNACKS, DINNER, LUNCH & BREAKFAST FOR  BACKPACK PORTION OF TRIP)

__ Trail mix and snacks

__ Lunch

__ Dinner (We suggest purchasing pre-packaged dehydrated meals or using a dried soop mix  as a base )

__ Breakfast (We suggest individual oatmeal packs )

 

CLOTHING (Avoid cotton if possible and think layers. Wear a bright color article of clothing)

__ Gloves

__ Hat (for warmth and sun protection)

__ Socks  ( 2 pair and and anti-blister liner socks)

__ Undergarments ( 1 change)

__ T-Shirt

__ Long sleeve shirt

__ Shorts ( if warm weather)

__ Long pants

__ Wool sweater or fleece jacket

__ Windbreaker

__ Rain gear or poncho

* If Scout has totenchit card
